Your Common Room
The Common Room is the focus of social activity in college, and your Committee plan a number of social events throughout the year to relieve some of the tension which an academically rigorous course at Oxford naturally provides. In particular, Committee members organise a packed itinerary for freshers' week, the termly black-tie dinners as well as other events which bring our students (who are often on very different timetables) together. St. Stephen's House is a naturally sociable place - your Common Room Committee simply do the organising.
The Common Room is the place where your voice is heard. As a member of the Common Room, you can contribute to the life of the college, recommending improvements to teaching, academic and pastoral care, and general college life. The Common Room also looks after your welfare. Should any issues arise, you can have confidence that the Common Room Committee will both listen and do its best to help. Your time at college will undoubtedly have its ups and downs, but we get through it all together; and we also manage to have a lot of good times along the way.
The Common Room is your link to the University. With unrivalled facilities and unequalled opportunities, Oxford is a great place to study. We want to make sure you get the most out of that, whether that's knowing how to use the university's libraries, or having access to the many sports teams and societies.
